The Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp powered some of America's most iconic WWII fighters ✈️ This 18-cylinder radial engine was the first air-cooled engine to produce 2,000 horsepower, powering legendary WWII fighters like the F4U Corsair, F6F Hellcat, and P-47 Thunderbolt. Over 125,000 were built between 1939-1960, and remarkably, some of these engines are still flying today; 88 years after their first introduction.
