Dec 15, 2023 · I’d say the subscription is only worth it if you want to try doing the crossword. I did start off doing just connections and wordle and have since started doing the crossword which I enjoy a ton. But the crossword takes more time than the other games, so it’s not for everybody.

So this is my reminder to check with your library if you have something similar….in case you’d rather save the $52/year. But if you’re an avid NYT reader, and use the games and cooking sections, you can’t beat $1/week!

"Worth" is very subjective. It's worth it to me, but I also consume the NYT games and news. The gift subscription that includes all 3 is only $75/year, so I gift it to myself every year. I hate that everything is a subscription now and have almost no subscriptions in my life (not even streaming services) but I've found this one worth having.

On top of the news, the subscription gets you access to the magazine, which is amazing, as well as other sections like books, travel, culture, etc, which are all fun reads. The NYT also has some bomb games — connections, wordle, and the crossword are all legitimately really fun, I play them almost daily. So, my opinion, yes, NYT is worth having.

I think it's worth it. (I used to have just the cooking subscription, but now have the whole package.) Generally, if I'm seeking out a specific "classic" dish (for ex: carbonara, bolognese, crab cakes, etc) I'll check out Serious Eats or NYT for each of their takes. What I also love about NYT is that they have a lot of fun recipes too.
