Jan 29, 2012 · Hey, I have a 17" MacBook Pro (Late 2011) running OS 10.10.2 and had the same thing happen, but only my headphone jack port stopped working. The internal speakers were fine. But if everyone else's suggestions don't work I have a new cheap fix!!! I looked it up and saw that people said to twiddle a toothpick or whatever in the headphone jack port.

When I plug it in to my mid 2012 13'macbook pro it recognises the microphone as a pair of headphones. Then when I go into "input" section in system preferences the only option that comes up is the laptops internal microphone.

However, there is no option in the sound settings to use the port as the input. It only shows the built-in microphone as a possible choice for the input.

(repeat as necessary) for some reason there is a tiny switch that disables the audio out when the red light is on.
