Place it in a preheat 500⁰ oven and roast at that temperature for five minutes per pound. Then turn the oven off and root open the door for 2½ hours. Rest for ½ an hour before carving.

Dec 24, 2022 · I do the reverse sear. 200 degrees for 4-8 hours (depending on roast size). Rest for 60-90 minutes. Then blast at 450 degrees for 10 minutes prior to serving. Edit: I went with the consensus and pulled the roast at 125 degrees. Tented the prime rib for 90 minutes while we were getting everything else ready. Final resting temp was 134.7 degrees.

We have cooked 6-8 LB roasts before and plan to stick to our normal recipe of 425 for about 30 minutes and then 350 until 125 degrees internal temp. But with a roast this big i just want to make sure I start it at the right time so our guests aren’t waiting around.
