Rideshare drivers are being targeted in a series of armed robberies and vehicle hijackings on Chicago’s West Side, police warn.

TLC Commissioner David Do on Wednesday called the rideshare companies’ practice of freezing drivers out of the app “harmful, unnecessary and unacceptable.”

Rideshare drivers have fallen victim to several armed robberies and carjackings on the city's West Side, prompting a warning from Chicago police amid their search for the group of males responsible.

Police are asking for help in finding four people they say are responsible for a robbery pattern targeting rideshare drivers. Most victims had their phones stolen from them and, in some cases, money as well.

According to the NYPD, thieves have been hopping into rideshare vehicles, tricking drivers into handing over their phones, and, in some cases, stealing thousands of dollars within seconds through mobile payment apps.
