The Raspberry Pi Foundation has released the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5. This is a smaller and modular version of the Raspberry Pi 5 computer.

The CM5 uses a BCM2712 Cortex-A76 64-bit SoC running at 2.4 GHz and has memory options from 2 GB through to 16 GB of SDRAM, although the latter won't arrive until 2025, and 8, 16, 32, or 64 GB of eMMC flash memory. There is also a CM5Lite version with no eMMC flash memory.

The new compute module's lineage stretches back a decade, to a time when Raspberry Pi was still establishing itself as a DIY darling. The Raspberry Pi Foundation realized there was demand for a more compact device without the expansive I/O setup.

As with previous versions of Raspberry Pi’s flagship SBCs, there is now a Compute Module of the Raspberry Pi 5. The CM5 offers a smaller form factor and enables an easier use for industrial and embedded applications.

The shares in Cambridge microcomputer company Raspberry Pi rose 13p – almost four per cent – to 348p on London Stock Exchanged as it launched Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5.

Compute Module 5 marks a milestone in Raspberry Pi’s evolution from its educational roots to its current position as a major player in industrial computing, with approximately 75% of Raspberry Pi units now deployed in industrial and embedded applications.

It's been a little over four years since Raspberry Pi Foundation released a Compute Module. That changes today with the launch of Raspberry Pi's Compute Module 5.
