Former Argentina captain Javier Mascherano will be Inter Miami ’s next head coach, according to multiple sources. Mascherano replaces Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, 61, who resigned officially on Friday due to personal reasons. This will be Mascherano’s first professional managerial position.

Inter Miami is on the verge of hiring Javier Mascherano as its new coach, according to multiple reports on Saturday. Mascherano, 40, is a former teammate of Miami star Lionel Messi. The two were teammates at FC Barcelona from 2010-18.

In a social media post on Sunday, the Blues announced that "Drew Bannister has been relieved of his coaching duties" and that "Jim Montgomery has been named the 28th head coach in franchise history."

Bannister had been on the job in St. Louis for less than a year since succeeding Stanley Cup-winning coach Craig Berube. Montgomery spent two seasons as an assistant on Berube’s staff.
