Ryanair gives update on paperless boarding passes as it delays roll out - The airline expects to ‘eliminate almost all airport check-in fees’ following the move

Ryanair's plans to scrap physical boarding passes and go completely paperless have been delayed by six months.

Europe's number one airline, Ryanair, has made a dramatic U-turn on making its boarding passes 100 per cent paperless, with the introduction date now pushed back months

The airline also believes that a paperless boarding pass policy will enhance passengers' travel experience thanks to helpful in-app features such as a new 'order to seat' option on the app, as well as more direct updates when it comes to flight information, particularly during periods of travel disruption.

Ryanair is delaying its move to 100% paperless boarding passes until the winter schedule. The airline was due to switch completely to digital passes and remove all check-in desks by the summer. 80% of passengers flying with the airline already use the pass on their phones and the change aims to save over 300 tonnes in paper waste every year.

From November 2025, passengers travelling with the Irish airline Ryanair will no longer be able to obtain and print traditional paper boarding passes. Instead, the carrier announced on Wednesday that they will need to use digital boarding passes generated in the "myRyanair" app.
