The Maharashtra Government told the Bombay High Court, on Tuesday, that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had completed the investigation over the Badlapur sexual assault case and that a senior police officer has been suspended for dereliction of duty.

Appearing before the Maharashtra High Court, the government counsel said that the SIT has completed its task and a female inspector-rank police official has been suspended for showing negligence in handing the case.

The Badlapur sexual assault case investigation is over and a senior police officer has been suspended for dereliction of duty, the Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court on Tuesday. Two charge sheets have been filed against the slain accused in the case and trustees of the school, the HC was told.

The state government on Tuesday informed the Bombay High Court that it has suspended Senior Police Inspector of Badlapur Police station, who was investigating sexual assault case, for deriliction of duty by delaying in lodging the FIR in the case.

The Bombay High Court has reprimanded the CID for not submitting key evidence, including an X-ray of a police officer's injury, in the controversial investigation of a police encounter. Questions arise about the integrity of the investigation into the alleged murder of a suspect linked to a school sexual assault.
