After severe weather and heavy rain on Thursday, more storms are headed for Iowa on Friday afternoon prompting a tornado watch and flood watch.
A nearly two-year evaluation of NWS performance on tornado forecasting concluded that the agency, which faces mounting scrutiny over its forecasting capabilities amid personnel losses, “has consistently fallen short of meeting performance goals for probability of detection and warning lead times” since 2011.
The storm traveling east has already resulted in an evacuation order from the Harley-Davidson festival on Milwaukee's lakefront.
According to the NWS, the EF-0 tornado briefly touched down in the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, located in Jasper County, South Carolina. It happened at 5:14 p.m. The estimated peak wind of the tornado was 65 miles per hour.
