The deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal is headed towards Tamil Nadu coast after causing torrential rain in Sri Lanka, where 12 people have died. IMD said the deep depression might become a cyclonic storm by Nov 29 and cross north TN-Puducherry coasts day after.

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukkottai districts.

As Cyclone Fengal intensifies over the Bay of Bengal, Chennai braces for prolonged rainfall expected to continue until December 1. The city has already witnessed heavy downpours, disrupting daily life and raising concerns about waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh between November 27 and 29. Strong winds, ranging between 45-55 km/h with gusts up to 65 km/h, are likely along the affected coasts. Additionally, rough seas may lead to flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt marine activities.

The deep depression will be named Cyclone Fengal if it turns into a cyclonic storm before making landfall. However, the Met department official says weather patterns show it is weakening.
