President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday nominated Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister to serve as the next administrator of the Drug Enforcement Agency.

In 2017, then-Governor Rick Scott appointed Chronister to lead the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and he has been re-elected three times. “I think he's a great pick,” said Brian Boyd.

The announcement of Sheriff Chad Chronister came after President-elect Donald J. Trump said that he would impose tariffs that would stay in place until Canada, Mexico and China halted the flow of drugs and migrants.

The change in DEA leadership comes as the agency — and the nation — is still grappling with a drug crisis fueled by the flow of illicit fentanyl.
