Countries at the COP29 summit in Baku adopted a $300 billion a year global finance target on Sunday to help poorer nations cope with impacts of climate change, a deal its intended recipients criticised as woefully insufficient.

Negotiators from nearly 200 nations made a nonbinding commitment that wealthy nations would aim to provide $300 billion annually by 2035 to help poorer nations.

Developing countries who had been seeking more than $1 trillion in support called the deal an “insult” and said that it failed to provide the critical support they needed to effectively tackle the climate crisis.
