A number of Christmas lights switch-on events have been cancelled as Storm Bert is set to reach the south of England on Saturday. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to sweep in with yellow Met Office warnings in place.

Yellow weather warnings for wind and rain are in place as Storm Bert hits the West of England. During a Christmas lights switch-on at the Cheltenham Brewery, cladding from the nearby Premier Inn blew down and landed on a car. Reuben Spence, who was at the scene, said people had been in the car at the time and fire crews were at the scene.

DROITWICH'S Christmas lights switch-on event is going ahead despite being scaled back by Storm Bert. The annual event will still go ahead today (November 23) but most activities have been moved inside as heavy rain is expected to hit the county this evening.
