The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Tripura's capital Agartala on Tuesday announced the suspension of all visa and consular services with immediate effect until further notice because of "security reasons",

On Tuesday (3 December), Bangladesh suspended visa and consular services at its Assistant High Commission in Agartala, following an incident where a mob breached the mission’s security barricades.

Seven people were arrested on Tuesday for breaching the mission's security barricades and damaging property a day earlier.

Protests by Hindu Sangharsh Samity Monday, demanding release of ex-ISKCON monk Chinmoy Das, turned violent with protesters breaching the premises & bringing down flag of Bangladesh.

Tripura’s BJP-led government has launched an inquiry into the breach. Suspended officers include sub-inspectors Dilu Jamatia, Debabrata Sinha, and Joynal Hossain. Assistant Commandant Kanti Nath Ghosh has also been withdrawn for alleged negligence. Additional security personnel have since been deployed to the mission.

Three police personnel posted at the Assistant High Commission premises were suspended and departmental proceedings have been initiated for alleged negligence in duty.

Agartala, December 3 (IANS): A day after the breach of security at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission (AHC) office in Agartala, the mission of the neighbouring country on Tuesday suspended all visa and consular services for the indefinite period, officials said.

On Monday, a protest was underway outside the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Das when agitators stormed the complex.

Bangladesh summoned the Indian envoy to protest an attack on its consulate in Agartala. The protest came ahead of Indian foreign secretary Vikram Misri's planned visit to Dhaka. India expressed willingness to maintain friendly relations and promote peace and security with Bangladesh.
