FTC seeks clear information on how social media and streaming companies determine which specific ads and other content to show individuals.

None of the companies reported sharing practices that treat teen users' data differently than that of adults, the study found.

Social media companies gather data through tracking technologies used in online advertising and buying information from data brokers, and other means, the FTC said.
