Nico Daws made 29 saves for his first career shutout, while Dougie Hamilton scored in the second period and added an assist as the New Jersey Devils opened a five-game road trip with a 5-0 rout over the Nashville Predators on Sunday night.

Daws was assigned to AHL Utica on Sunday. Daws had been solid over three appearances since the 4 Nations Face-Off break, posting a 2-0-0 record, 0.49 GAA and .981 save percentage. However, he'll head back to the minors after Jacob Markstrom (knee) was activated off injured reserve.

Daws allowed a goal on 25 shots in Saturday's 3-1 win over Utah. Daws has won all three of his starts at the NHL level this season, and they've all come on the road over the last month. He's allowed just three goals on 88 shots over five appearances in total.

Daws will guard the road goal against Utah on Saturday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. In his last start, Daws stopped 29 shots in a 5-0 win over Nashville on Sunday. He has stopped 61 of 63 shots en route to a 2-0-0 record in four NHL appearances this season.

Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and Curtis Lazar scored for the Devils while goalie Nico Daws stopped 24 of 25 shots. Mikhail Sergachev scored the lone goal for Utah. The Devils improve to 2-1-0 on their current five-game road trip.

Daws will guard the road goal against the Predators on Sunday, per Sam Kasan of the Devils' official site. Daws will get the second half of New Jersey's back-to-back after Jake Allen played in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Dallas.
