Publishing house Penguin has said it "undertook all the necessary due diligence" before releasing The Salt Path, after a series of claims about the book's veracity. A recent Observer investigation claimed English author Raynor Winn fabricated or gave misleading information about some elements of her 2018 non-fiction best-seller.

Penguin on Wednesday defended its fact checking before publishing "The Salt Path,” a bestselling true story that was turned into a movie earlier this year with big-name stars.

Penguin has defended its publication of The Salt Path, saying it undertook due diligence and received a legal assurance from Raynor Winn that the book was factually true.
