A New York City Police officer and a bystander were both shot in the leg in Queens on Tuesday evening, police said. The suspect was shot and killed.

An officer with the New York Police Department was shot while in Queens, according to a law enforcement source, with the shooter also hit by a bullet.

NYPD Officer Rich Wong, with family and friends by his side, waved to a crowd of police officers as he was wheeled out of Jamaica Hospital to officers’ salutes and a thunder of claps.
