Jamal Murray scored 33 points and the Denver Nuggets held on for a 118-109 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, who were without Cooper Flagg for the second half after the rookie No. 1 overall pick sprained his left ankle Wednesday night.

Murray had been dealing with a left ankle sprain and an illness that put his status in question for the second leg of the Nuggets' back-to-back games, while Gordon is still getting back to speed from his previous right hamstring strain that sidelined him for over six weeks.

The Mavericks tipped off a four-game homestand on Monday with a 113-105 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. They led for most of the contest after limiting the Nets to 45.3% shooting from the field, including just nine 3-pointers, and forcing 17 turnovers, which led to 22 points.

A team that’s stretched as thinly as the Mavericks are by injuries, and in a game where Cooper Flagg and Daniel Gafford both got hurt, there should be a spot for a veteran who could contribute, but that doesn’t seem to be Russell anymore.
