The March 1 Mid-State Correctional Facility death of 22-year-old Messiah Nantwi has sparked an investigation by state officials. Nantwi’s death was just 81 days after another inmate, Robert Brooks, died across the street at Marcy Correctional Facility involving its prison staff.

The New York Attorney General’s Office is recusing itself from the investigation into the death of Messiah Nantwi, citing conflict of interest.

A 22-year-old incarcerated individual at Mid-State Correctional Facility was pronounced dead on Saturday and 11 staff members have been put on leave during the ongoing investigation.
