The Catholic bishop of San Bernardino County, California, told congregants Tuesday they’re released from the obligation to attend Sunday services if they have a “genuine fear of immigration enforcement actions” while attending Mass, marking the latest instance of the Catholic Church repudiating the Trump administration.

Along with a Mass dispensation in San Bernardino, bishops in Southern California have begun to speak out about aggressive mass deportations that have terrified many immigrants, including many in the country legally.
