Knoxville police shot a man who was armed with an axe, the department said in a news release. The man was identified as Christopher Arons, 52, of Knoxville, and as of Nov. 13 is hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

At least one Knoxville Police Department officer shot a man Tuesday afternoon, according to the department. It happened in the 2600 block of Fairview Street just before 1:15 p.m., department officials said.

Officers have been put on administrative leave after a shooting in Knoxville, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
