The US Senate has voted nearly unanimously to remove a 10-year moratorium on the enforcement of state artificial intelligence regulations from Republicans’ sweeping domestic policy bill.

Critics of the controversial provision in the Big Beautiful Bill included a diverse group ranging from Marjorie Taylor Greene to the NAACP.

A proposal to deter states from regulating artificial intelligence for a decade was soundly defeated in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, thwarting attempts to insert the measure into President Donald Trump’s big bill of tax breaks and spending cuts.
