The Ukrainian government has banned the use of the Telegram messaging app on state and military mobile phones in a bid to prevent Russian spying.

The ban extends to official devices of government employees, military personnel, security and defense workers, and critical infrastructure employees.

Telegram is heavily used in both Ukraine and Russia and has become a critical source of information since the Russian invasion.

The ban affects government officials and military personnel, over concerns about Russian cyber-attacks.

In announcing the ban, Ukraine says it's uncovered evidence that Russian agents can access private user messages on Telegram, including deleted correspondence.
