Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday morning asked the Texas Department of Public Safety, or DPS, to deploy tactical strike teams to "support the Trump Administration’s homeland security operations to locate and arrest criminal illegal immigrants in the state.

SAN ANTONIO — Gov. Greg Abbott announced Sunday that DPS operations are expected to expand within the coming days. Abbott posted that Texas DPS troopers and special agents have been deployed to assist President Trump's Homeland Security Investigations in "targeting and removing illegal immigrants."

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott deployed the troops to the Rio Grande Valley, where he said they'll work side-by-side with U.S. Border Patrol agents to keep migrants from illegally entering the country. Some of those troops left from the U.S. Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth Monday morning. The others left from a base in Houston.
