Vikings backup quarterback Daniel Jones said Saturday he’s “preparing for whatever the situation is” at No. 2 quarterback Monday night in the wild-card game against the Los Angeles Rams. It was the first time the ex-Giants starter spoke publicly since the week he arrived in Minnesota.

The backdrop of this whole conversation surrounding the depth chart is the fact that quarterback Sam Darnold struggled mightily last weekend when the Vikings suffered a 31-9 loss to the Detroit Lions. He only completed 18 of 41 passes for 166 yards and he did not throw a touchdown.

Daniel Jonesis available to be the Vikings' backup quarterback Monday against the Los Angeles Rams. Coach Kevin O’Connell would not say Thursday whether Jones will be given that role over Nick Mullens.

Jones signed to the Vikings’ practice squad shortly after he had been released by the Giants earlier this season.

After winning the Daniel Jones sweepstakes after the former Duke quarterback was waived mid-season from his nine-figure contract by the New York Giants, it felt like only a matter of time before the Minnesota Vikings would sign the practice squad player to their roster full-time.
