Following years of rumors and speculation, Nintendo at last provides its first official comment on the Switch 2 backward compatibility.

Nintendo may be on the cusp of revealing the successor to the wildly successful Switch, but the company won't leave its old console completely in the dust. In a recent briefing, Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 (or whatever Nintendo calls it) will be backward compatible with games for the original Switch.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially announced backwards compatibility, and this will be an important fix for a major issue of its predecessor.

According to an earlier leak, the Switch 2 reportedly has a card slot. However, the message doesn’t confirm the new Switch will be able to play physical Switch games. The message from Nintendo says, “Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”
