At least one Knoxville Police Department officer shot a man Tuesday afternoon, according to the department. It happened in the 2600 block of Fairview Street just before 1:15 p.m., department officials said.

Officers were initially responding to reports of a man with an ax. The Knoxville Police Department said shots were fired after officers encountered the man.

Knoxville Police officers responded to a shooting at a home used as an Airbnb rental just outside of the Belle Morris neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

A man who was armed with an axe was taken to the hospital after being shot by officers, according to Knoxville Police. The circumstances leading up to the shooting are being investigated by the agents with Tennessee Bureau of Investigation at the request of Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen.
