Elon Musk has shared his own disbelief that the government efficiency department Donald Trump tapped him to lead “is real.” The world’s richest man and SpaceX owner, who holds billions of dollars in government contracts through his companies, appeared to mock the newly-created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in a post on X.

Musk—the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and owner of X (formerly Twitter)—was quoted in Trump's announcement as saying that DOGE "will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!"

The newly established commission known as DOGE is run by two Trump loyalists. Musk claims the organization will have a "leaderboard" for wasteful government spending.

These two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” said Donald Trump in a statement.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is to officially join Trump’s administration as the co-head of the new US Department of Government Efficiency – a second federal department with the goal of making government spending more efficient. You can’t get more ironic than that.

U.S. President-elect Trump has tasked billionaire businessman Elon Musk with making the government cost-efficient. That may be an admirable objective, but the ideology driving it is wrong-headed... and dangerous.
